My name is Nicola Sugden and as the Head Teacher (Curriculum) of the Upper Primary, my responsibilities lie with the day to day running of this campus and with the development of the curriculum for year groups P1-P6; a part of the through-train education that we offer in the International sections of the school, for students aged 3 to 18 years old. I have been teaching for 21 years in primary schools across England and Hong Kong. I have had the pleasure to have worked at KCIS for 7 years.
We are a very friendly school with a family atmosphere; our staff know our students very well, from our amahs, office staff, teaching assistants, teachers and the Head Teacher.
Our curriculum is tailor-made to fit our students’ needs providing a strong basis in language development in English and Mandarin. Based on the English National Curriculum, it has been adapted to cover an Asian and International perspective.
Our staff is dedicated to providing a holistic education and encouraging our students to become life-long learners, developing their talents wherever they may lie. We have a very enthusiastic and dedicated group of teachers, recruited from around the world, who have high expectations for all our students.
Maths and Literacy are taught as discrete subjects and have been recently reviewed to adapt to the 2014 changes in the English National Curriculum. Science, Geography, History, Design Technology and Art are taught on a more cross-curricular basis where links can be naturally made.
Information Technology is integrated across all areas of our teaching. Interactive white boards and ipads are used in class to enhance the teaching of our curriculum. Our ICT suite is kept up to date and used to teach discrete ICT skills and to support learning in other areas.
I welcome you to visit and look forward to meeting you soon.
